Obituary

Alfred "Shag" Martin was born on July 27, 1946, in Rotan, Texas to Geneva Jackson and Elroy Martin.

On the afternoon of January 7, 2024 Alfred "Shag" Martin gained his wings and was called home to be with our lord and savior at the age of 77 years old.

He dedicated his life as a farmer starting in his early 20's and ended up in Anton, Texas farming for Dobrovolny Farms for 30 years. He earned the title Big "A" through all his hard work, dedication and love for farming that became his passion over the years. Even after retiring, he could not sit still and started mowing for Trinity Baptist Church which became his church home. He loved working on bicycles, lawn mowers and vehicles in general; anything to keep his hands busy and mind occupied.

He is the only that could put a spin on words that would have you laughing for days. He was kind, caring, loving, and would give you the shirt off of his back without a second thought. The true definition of a selfless man. His heart was nothing but huge and he loved big, we will always remember the laughs, love and his hilarious spelling and dance skills that put a smile on each of our faces.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife Patricia Martin, his daughters Charlene Lacy, Sharla Osborne & husband Vincent, Angela Thomas & wife Mel, Felicia Ward & husband Joe, Jennifer Brown, Kimberly Martin, Amber Martin, and Candice Martin; sons Alfred Martin Jr., Daniel Martin & wife Marcie, and Jeremiah "JJ" Martin & wife Erica; nieces Faye Martin and Bitty Martin; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren (52 and counting).

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Trinity Baptist Church with Randy Asebedo and Arthur Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. A visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the funeral home.
