Bessie Elizabeth Melton, 83, of Post, TX passed from this life on February 4, 2024. She was born on October 20, 1940 in Firebaugh, California to Frances and Rosie Lee Duncan. She worked as a healthcare provider. She enjoyed working as a Sunday school teacher and worked in the children's program. She married Robert Melton on May 31, 1963 in Lubbock, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2014 in Sanford, FL. She is survived by her children Penny & Keith Freeman of Sanford, FL, Christy & Les Rutherford of Post, TX, Robert & Kim Melton of Purcell, OK, and Samuel & Kristi Melton of Post, TX. She had 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Her sisters Rosie Holmes of Rockwall, TX, Bonnie Fowler of Dallas, TX, Phyllis Harris of Gunbarrel City, TX, and Sue Pell of Forney, TX. She is preceded in death by her brothers David Duncan, Robert Duncan, Alfred Duncan, and Frank Duncan. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Post, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
