Betty Peters
Curry
February 23, 1948 – March 5, 2025
Betty Sue Peters Curry was born February 23, 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Marvin Franklin Peters and Lois Mae Bailey Peters. Betty was raised in Burkburnett and Electra Texas. She was the baby of four sisters, Wanda Lou Kessler, Margie Nell Hines, and Patsy Marie Martin.
Betty was engaged to a man for two years the day she met James Allen Curry at the Whistle Stop Drive In. When he asked her out on a date, she turned him down flat…until she saw him later with another girl. Less than 3 months later, on December 17, 1966, James' birthday, they were married in Electra, and started their wonderful life together.
Jim and Betty had two daughters, Shellee Denise and Melinda Leann. The girls were adored and spoiled and enjoyed an amazing childhood with their parents.
The family lived the early years in Grand Prairie, moving to Snyder for 5 years, to Ira for a short time, and finally moving to Post in 1978. She was a florist by trade from the age of 16. She worked at Hinshaws in Snyder, and The Prairie Flower Shop in Post until 1990 when she started nursing school at Western Texas College earning her LVN.
Betty was a talented artist who shined at every medium and craft she tried, but her love and true calling was cooking. She and Jim had a storefront at Old Mill Trade days where she made fudge and other sweets. .
After several lengthy hospital stays and a brief battle with cancer, she went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2025. James, Shellee and special niece, Dana were by her side to see her off.
There to greet her, preceding her in death, were her parents, three sisters, and her youngest daughter Melinda Fannon.
Betty is survived by her husband James of Post, Shellee Odom (Dick) of Post, Grandchildren Bailey Guthrie (Sierra) of Post, Victoria Evans of Shallowater, Chase Odom (Rebekah) of Post, Rebecca Martinez (Samuel) of Shallowater and James 'Jace' Fannon (Kaylei) of Lubbock. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, Jared, Jacob, Halle, Logan, Keyson, Hunter, Conner, Bowen, Leyla, Remington, Lincoln, and Salem. Nephews Ronnie Hines (Kim), Michael Martin, Debbie Robertson, and Dana Robertson (Darrell).
Visitation will be Monday, March 10 from 5:00-7:00 at Hudman Funeral Home in Post. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. at the Methodist Church in Post, graveside immediately following at Terrace Cemetery, also in Post.
