Obituary

Dennis McDonald went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2026. Dennis was born on May 7, 1956 to Bert and Mary Katherine (Murray) McDonald in Tahoka, Texas. Dennis graduated Post High School in 1975. After graduating, Dennis began his career as a farmer for 40 plus years. He married Nancy McCowen on December 26, 1980. They built a life of 45 years together. Dennis took pride in his family and simple country life. He was happiest on horseback, in the feed truck, or driving around the country as long as there was at least half a tank of gas in the vehicle. He enjoyed old gospel hymns, Willies Roadhouse, donut holes, and Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies. Dennis was the most genuine son, brother, husband, dad, bonus dad, father-in-law, and friend. He was quiet, witty, stubborn, strong, and the one to drop anything for someone else. Because Dennis taught his sons, Trent and Dakota, what being a husband was about, he gained two amazing daughter-in-laws in Melyssa and Kambry. Through that came their first grandson Wesley Joe who will get to learn his grandfather's legacy in the same way because of the lessons that have been left in those still here.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Mary Kay and brother-in-law Steve Mason.

Dennis is survived by his wife Nancy of 45 years, two sons Trent (Melyssa) and Dakota (Kambry) McDonald of Post, one grandson Wesley McDonald of Post, brother Wayne (Carol) McDonald of Post, sister Janice Mason of Post, and multiple beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 30, 2026 at Grassland Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. A visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the funeral home.

AT SUNDOWN THE OLD MAN STANDS ALONE AND THINKS OF THE HORSES, DEAD AND GONE, THAT PLODDED THE ROAD WITH LOADS OF HAY AND WORKED THEIR LIVES OUT DAY ON DAY.

SO MANY HORSES, SO MANY YEARS. HE SMELLS THEIR SWEAT AND FAINTLY HEARS THE GHOSTLY BLOW OF THEIR PATIENT BREATH UPON HIS SLEEVE. HE FEELS THEM SNUFF AND GENTLY NUZZLE GIFTS OF GRAIN CUPPED IN THE HOLLOW OF HIS HAND. SO MANY HORSES, DEAD SO LONG, HE LEADS IN DREAMS AS NIGHT COMES ON.
