Eddie M.
Aten
March 24, 1928 – November 29, 2022
Eddie M. Aten was born on March 24, 1928, in Lynn County. She graduated from High School in Southland. Eddie was well acquainted with hard work and dedication with her family in the West Texas cotton industry. She married Ted L. Aten in 1947. In 48 years of marriage, they managed a fruitful life, filled with hard work cotton farming, raising Angus cattle, draft horses, children grandchildren and every aspect of farm life in between. She loved working with Maurine Hudman at her flower shop for many years where the lifelong friendship between Eddie and Hudman's went much deeper than flowers.
She was fiercely dedicated to her family and closest friends. She showed this in her patience, understanding and listening. She had an innate ability to make anyone in her presence feel important and heard just by listening. She had her stories to tell, bet she was always far more invested in hearing what tidbits you had to offer over her own. She loved a good joke, but she was humble. Usually, a joke she would tell would be about herself, and we all inherited her self-deprecating humor. When she would speak, not just to respond, but speak, her advice was concise, simple and strong. She had credibility and trust and could get you to open from the heart. Believe us when we say, that Grandma Eddie probably knew all our best secrets.
She is survived by her children, Ann Stelzer and Bill (Donna) Aten; her grandchildren Ross (Kim) Aten, Michael Stelzer and Kimberly Samsel; and by her great-grandchildren, Jase and Ryder Aten , and Joseph Samsel.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Grace Cummings, her husband Ted Aten, her sister Grace and her brother Billy.
She was strong in her faith and knew to give thanks to God everyday while on earth and she never hesitated to remind other to do the same. She knew she was abundantly blessed in her long life with her marriage, children, and all her family and friends and we are all abundantly blessed for having her.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 at Terrace Cemetery in Post with Johnnie Evans officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
