Gary "Red"
Eugene Workman
April 10, 1953 – January 20, 2023
Gary Eugene "Red" Workman was born on April 10, 1953 in Frost, TX to Norris and Syble (Hightower) Workman. He went to his eternal home on January 20, 2023 at the age of 69. Red graduated from Post High School in 1971 and briefly attended South Plains College while working as a cowboy.
Outside of a brief stint in the oilfield and owning and operating his own fence building company, he dedicated most of his life to being a cowboy. He day worked for many years on area ranches before becoming the ranch manager on the Rockin Mac Ranch in Clairemont, a position he held until his passing. He flagged many ropings and served as the President of the Post Stampede Rodeo Board for many years. He loved the cowboy way of life and could talk endlessly about cattle and moisture or the lack there of. He was an incredibly hard working man, living up to his last name.
Outside of cattle, his greatest love was his family. Combining the two, he spent much of his time with his grandkids on the ranch, sharing a beautiful way of life. Those that knew him know he loved to make others laugh and was always equipped with one liners to leave everyone in stitches. He lived a very simple way of life and taught those around him to "stop and smell the roses" and appreciate the little things in life.
He is survived by his children Rusty Workman and wife Leslie of Clairemont, TX and daughter Amanda and husband Jarrett Vickers of Alpine, TX. Two grandchildren Reagan and Roan Workman of Clairemont, TX. Three sisters Sherry Meurer and husband Billy of Lubbock, Tena Hughes of Lubbock and Ila Workman of Post. As well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Monday, January 23rd at 5:30 PM at Hudman Funeral Home followed by services at Post Community Center at 11 am on January 25th. The family suggests you participate in acts of kindness toward the staff at Post Nursing Home who loved him dearly in his last days.
