Our family sadly lost a pillar on Thursday, July 23, 2020, when Ida Odell Jones passed away from natural causes at the age of 99. Ida entered this world on June 18, 1921 in Lott, Texas the daughter of Nettie and James Ellis Polk. Ida was one of nine Polk children including her twin sister ADA. The tight knit Polk family was known for working hard and having fun. She would make faith and family her highest priority throughout her life. Ida married Ivan Lee Jones Sr. on May 15, 1959, and welcomed their only son, Ivan Lee Jones Jr, "Bud", the following April. The family lived in Post, Tx where she enjoyed a long fulfilling career as an elementary teacher until her retirement in 1986. She held degrees from Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Baylor University and Texas Tech University including a Masters in Religious Education and a second Masters in Elementary Education. Ida was a proud and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Post and remained extremely active in the community even through her later years. She was a member of the Trailblazers and kept books for the Senior Citizens Center well into her 80's. Ida was unwavering in her strong Christian beliefs and lived accordingly until the very end. She will forever be remembered as energetic, strong and devoted to her faith, family and community. Ida was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Jones Sr., six sisters, May Bruedigam, Rosalie Herring, Ada Phillips, Mary Hoes, Minnie Bramlett and Ginger Cheek and her brother James Polk. She is survived by her sister, Sue McDaniel of Conroe, Tx, her son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Irina Jones of Corinth, Tx, grandchildren Ivan Lee Jones III, Erin Jones and Alex Ageev and great granddaughter, Olivia Jones, plus numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 27, 2020 in the First Baptist Church of Post, Tx followed by a brief graveside service for close friends and family. Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 PM Sunday at Hudman Funeral Home.
