James Allen (Jimmy) Bird III, 91, of Post died on December 8, 2020 in Lubbock. He was born on December 4, 1929 on his family ranch in Garza County to James Allen (Al) and Henrietta (Gray) Bird II. He married Ada Lou Chambless on July 7, 1950 in Roswell, NM. Jim and Ada Lou enjoyed 70 years of marriage living on the Bird Ranch in Garza County.
Jim was one of the long time real cowboys and always worked hard on the ranch and was proud that it was one of the best cattle working ranches in the area. He loved to sit by the fireplace, look out the window to see his cows and the natural beauty of the ranch. He also loved to dance and play the fiddle. Jim was one of the best left handed calf ropers in the area and won a number of rodeos.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Lou Bird of Post, three daughters, Sherry (Roy) Sappington of Lubbock, Cindy (Rick) Shepherd of Lubbock and Dana Bird of Post, eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Lindy Bird in August 1971 and one son, Jay Bird in September 2004.
Private family services and interment will be on the Bird Ranch.
