Obituary

John Wayne Carson was born Monday, July 19, 1948 at Camp Lajeune, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to John and Merle (Price) Carson and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.

Wayne was a graduate of Vista High School, Vista, California, in 1966. He married his sweetheart, Earlene Sanders, on August 3, 1968 in Vista, California. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.

Wayne earned his Associate's degree from Palomar Junior College in 1974.

Wayne joined the Air Force in 1969 where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant. After his time in the military he returned to Vista where he became a city and then county building inspector. In 1978 Wayne and Earlene moved to Canadian, Texas, where he opened his own construction business. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas, in the summer of 1988 where Wayne worked in construction for himself. In 1990, he joined the Lubbock Housing Authority as the Maintenance Director. He retired in 2015. Wayne and Earlene moved to Post, Texas, in August of 2021. While in Post, he worked building cabinets for his son Greg's construction company.

Mr. Carson was baptized in March of 1968, and began attending church at Vista Church of Christ. He was a faithful servant the remainder of his life. He served as a deacon while at Canadian Church of Christ. Wayne and Earlene are currently members at Post Church of Christ.

Wayne had a thirst for knowledge and had multiple hobbies. He built his own 4000 square foot home while in Canadian. In Lubbock, he built a 1927 Ford Model T and joined the Hub City Cruisers and participated in parades and car shows. From his childhood on, he was an avid coin collector and was an active member in the South Plains Coin Club. He loved wood-working and making furniture for his family, producing many beautiful pieces. When he wasn't building things, he enjoyed fishing and working in his garden to share the produce with his friends and family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Earlene of Post; sister Brenda White and husband Don of Santee, California; brother Glen Carson of Vista, California; daughter Tina Branson and husband Carlon of Fort Worth; son Jason Carson and wife Brittne of Post; daughter Rene' Steadman and husband Chris of Quinton, Alabama; and son Greg Carson and wife Brittney of Post.
