Karl Becker, 60, of Post passed from this earthly life on March 31, 2022. Karl was born on October 21, 1961 in Hartford, Connecticut to Joseph and Bernice Becker. He was fortunate to be surrounded by 7 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Becker of Post, Tx, three sons; Elijah Becker of Post, Tx, Nathanael Becker of Dumas, Tx and Jakob Becker of Post, Tx; one daughter, Julia Becker of Post, Tx., five sisters; Charlotte Bulat and husband Mickey of West Suffield, Ct, Joan Burge and husband Jim of Wilmington, Oh, Laura Hamilton and husband Tom of Palm Bay, Fl.,Mara Goulet and husband Normand of Hobe Sound, Fl., and Renee Jubrey and husband Gary of E. Granby, Ct.; two brothers; Joe Becker and wife Terrie of Windsor Locks,Ct. and Jon Becker and wife Sue of Brownington, Vt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews from across the country. Two sisters, Marlene Drought and Donna LeBlanc preceded him in death.
Karl proposed to Laurie Silva on May 10, 1985 in Kennebunkport, Maine. One year later they were married in Swansea, Ma on May 10, 1986. Karl and Laurie spent the next 15 years living in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and finally settled in their beloved state of Maine in 1990. In 2010, the family moved to Texas for health reasons.
Karl pursued and attained a Bachelors in Marketing and a Bachelors in Mathematics from Franklin Pierce College in Ringe, NH. He held many varied accounting, auditing and financial analyst positions in his first career, He returned to the University of Farmington in Maine at 41 and succeeded in attaining his cherished Teaching degree. He taught high school mathematics in Gardiner and Searsport, Maine. After moving to Texas, he taught high school mathematics in Seminole and Post, Texas. It was his dream job; actually more a pleasure than employment. He felt lucky to be paid to teach and enlighten students about the magic of math. He hated teaching to the test, his teaching goal with all his students was that they learn the hows of mathematics rather than just plugging numbers into formulas. He was just beginning to pursue Goldbach's Conjecture, one of the oldest unsolved problems in number theory.
Karl loved the outdoors, especially the mountains. One of his valued accomplishments was reaching the peak of Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park, Maine. He loved to collect movies and had amassed over 1000 DVD's that he organized alphabetically on many bookcases. He loved reading, bur his second love after Laurie was music. His taste varied from classical to jazz to the blues, but classic rock was his love. He found joy in sharing classic rock with his students.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 3 pm in the Post ISD Auditorium. One of Karl's requests while he was living was that his funeral would be filled with laughter and music and just a few tears.
