Obituary

Harrison Lamar' Jones left this life to begin his next on September 20th, 2023. He was born in Garza County on October 26th, 1946 to Bernice and Thelma Jones. He was 76 years old. Lamar spent his childhood years alongside his sister, Mary Lois, growing up on the edge of town near Sand Creek. He left high school at an early age and worked as a cowboy on various Ranches in the area as well as being a rodeo cowboy for many years where he participated in all 3 Rough Stock events including Bareback, Saddle-Bronc, and Bull Riding. He then met the love of his life Karen Sue (Autry) on a blind date in Tahoka in 1966. They married on October 25th, 1968 in Tahoka and were about to celebrate their 55th Wedding Anniversary.

After marrying, he continued to Rodeo a few years but as his children were born, he transitioned to the oilfield and running heavy equipment for the remainder of his life. He retired from T×DOT, then from Garza County where he also ran heavy equipment. He loved his family tremendously through it all and would give his last dime to any of them if they needed it. He loved being outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing and camping. He was known as being quite the character, always talking and cutting up. He was especially known for all his one-liners and saying exactly what was on his mind, no matter the audience. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Mary Lois Stice. He is survived by his wife Karen Jones of Post, daughter Mara York of Post, son Lane Jones and wife Christina of Post, Granddaughter Sydnee Jones & boyfriend Aron Lopez of Post, Granddaughter Ashlee York of Post, 2 Great Grandsons Gunner Flores and Aron Lane Lopez of Post, His Nephew Jerry Glenn Nutt of San Angelo whom he considered a son, and his Niece Jackie Prasek of Bastrop.

Memorial services will be held at Caprock Springs fellowship in Post on Sunday, September 24th at 3:00 in the afternoon. Arrangements are under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Garza County Trailblazers in Post.
