Obituary

Michael D. Wiley, 70, of Hale Center died on January 31, 2021 in Plainview. He was born on April 16, 1950 in Lubbock to Audye and Ellen (Gartman) Wiley. He attended Wayland Baptist University graduating in May 1974. He worked in the finance industry and as a buyer at Gebo's until health problems forced him to quit. Through a lot of prayer from his parents, grandmother and churches Mike's health was restored. After encouragement from his amazing Sunday School Class at FBC Plainview, Mike enrolled at WBU to pursue a Master's degree in Education. Mike taught 7th and 8th grade Texas and US History at Carr Middle School in Hale Center. He continued at Wayland and obtained his principal certification. Mike was principal at Olton Junior High and finished his career at Carr Middle School in Hale Center.

During Mike's retirement years he was a substitute teacher at Abernathy High School and enjoyed getting to work again. He also enjoyed leather work, was an avid gardener and spending time outdoors in the spring and fall. He loved going to Ruidoso and spending time in the mountains. Mike was loved by family and friends.

Mike is survived by his wife Donna, daughters Heather Smith of Mansfield, Athena (Kenneth) Hooper of Plainview, grandchildren Ashlyn Stennett of Plainview and Sean Smith of Mansfield, Tammy Aten of Grandbury, his "honorary" daughter. He is also survived by his mother, Ellen Wiley of Bedford, brothers Jonathan Wiley of Bedford, Ron Wiley of Azle and brother in law, Jose Nevarez of Euless and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Dessie Gartman, Floyd Martin and Willey May Wiley, his father, Audye Wiley and his sister Connie Nevarez.

Private family services are planned for a later date.
