Odee Roberts
Kemp
April 7, 1916 – October 27, 2020
Odee Roberts Kemp, 104, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Odee was born to Gordie Belle Roberts (nee Wood) and A.S.Roberts on April 7, 1916 in Washita County, Oklahoma.
Odee's family moved to the Garza County area when she was a young child. She later graduated from Post High School in 1933 and married Keith Kemp, on April 12, 1937. Odee always saidKeith was the"most handsome man" she'd ever seen. Together, they built their loving home in Post, Texas.
Odee's greatest pride and joy in life was her family. She is survived in death by her children, Johnny Kemp (Nancy) of Post, Texas; Beth Cook (Joe) of Post, Texas; and Dr. Jim Kemp of Post, Texas; granddaughters, Becky Phifer of Fort Worth, Texas; Jana Arant (Rev. Scott Arant) of Gainesville, Texas; Krista Warren of Dallas, Texas; Kembra Jones (Kirk) of Lamesa, Texas; Katie Magby (Blake) of Austin, Texas; and Kelsey Kemp (Dr. Mathew Bruehl) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Other survivors include her ten great-grandchildren: Courtney, Grant (Abby), Hunter, Rachel, Gage, Rayme, Ben, Klyde, Garon and Gray. She is also survived by four nieces, two nephews, and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Keith of 63 years and six siblings.
To know Odee was to love her. She was a fixture of her church community at First Baptist Church and rejoiced in knowing the Lord. She was an avid gardener, gifted cook, and talented seamstress. She loved the Ragtown Gospel Theater and music. She said her secrets to her longevity were simple: Eat jalapeno peppers daily and "just keep breathing."
For the past six years, Odee called the Post Nursing and Rehabilitation Center her home, and the family would like to thank the nurses and caretakers for their dedicated care.
Services for Odee will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Post. The Rev. Scott Arant, the Rev. Steve McMeans, and the Rev. Keith Garner will officiate the service. Chip Polk will provide the music for the service.
