Obituary

Patsy Jane Shults Craig of Post died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in Idalou. Surrounded by her family, she was 88.

Born Nov. 30, 1935, in Garza County to Ted and Lou Shults, she lived most of her life in Post, though she spent part of her early childhood outside of Vaughn, NM, where her father and uncle farmed pinto beans. She attended Close City School and Post High School.

She married Robert L. Craig on Nov. 7, 1953, in Grassland. The couple raised four children on a cotton farm west of Post.

Patsy will be remembered for her kindness and grace. She was unwavering in her devotion to her family, her friends and her Lord and Savior, most of all. She lived her life serving God, whether in teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies or developing close relationships as a mentor to the many who sought her wisdom and guidance. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Post, she embraced each opportunity to share God's word.

Each of her children received her singular attention, especially on their birthdays. She was also a gracious and generous hostess to the many she greeted at her door. Patsy was a breath of fresh air, and she will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Craig; her granddaughter, Kimberly Craig; and her brother, John Shults.

Survivors include her children, Joe (and Kellie) Craig, Bob (and Susan) Craig, Al Craig (and Christie Curb), and Trish (and Sam) Canon; her grandchildren, Christopher Craig, Laura Craig, Stephen Craig, Meagan Ruttkay, Skyler Kyzar and Kami Pierce; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of cherished friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Christopher Craig, Kahl Yarbro, Jaxon Yarbro, Tino Alaniz, Danny Gonzales and Robbie Wilke. Honorary pallbearers included Stephen Craig, Frank Shults, Mike Aten, Terry Bartlett and Bo Jackson.

The funeral took place on Saturday, April 27, at First Baptist Church, Post. Interment followed at Grassland Cemetery.
