Robert Hansford
Hudman
September 19, 1943 – September 15, 2022
Graveside services for Bob Hudman will be at 11 AM Monday, September 19, 2022 in Terrace Cemetery with Rev. Steve McMeans of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church officiating.
Robert Hansford Hudman was born in Slaton, Texas, September 19, 1943, to Maurine and H. Hansford Hudman. Hans found out he'd become a father to a healthy baby boy from a Western Union Telegram as he was in the U. S. Navy stationed in Norman, OK, during WW II. Bob was the oldest of three boys born to Hans and Maurine. Bob passed from this life on September 15, 2022.
Bob was a graduate of Post High School in 1962 and was one helluva football player until he blew out his knee in a hard fought game against Ballinger. He travelled up the road to Texas Tech University (Texas Technological College at the time) graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. While at Texas Tech, he met many friends, pulled innumerable hijinks, was a member of Kappa Alpha, and met the love of his life, the former Suzanne Johnson.
Bob and Suzanne married January 4, 1969, and welcomed their first born, Jenifer, later that year. Five years later, they added Sara Jane to their young family. Along the way, Bob added countless dogs, cats, and even a few rabbits to the menagerie as he never met a stray animal he didn't pick up and fatten up.
Bob owned and operated Hudman Exterminating business until a few years ago. He owned and operated Hudman Greenhouse until his death. He worked with his mother Maurine at Maurine's Flowers as chief artist in residence until her retirement in 1999. After she retired, he moved the flower shop up on top of the Caprock to where Hudman Greenhouse sits. He remained Head Honcho of Maurine's Flower shop until his death.
Bob was a wizard at Jeopardy, all things Civil War, and was an avid reader. He built model airplanes and aircraft carriers and collected coins and stamps. He passed his love of plants to his daughter Jenifer and his love of history to his daughter Sara. His quick wit remains undefeated.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Suzanne, of Post, his daughter Jenifer (Ben) and his daughter Sara all of Lubbock, as well as by the apples of his eye, his grandchildren Rachael and Reese. He is also survived by his brothers Randy (DiAnne), of Lubbock and Bill (Carolyn), of Plano, nephew Kenny, and several Hudman and Russell cousins. Also missing him is his dog Daisy and the many wonderful people who worked for him over the years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, his niece Brooke (Hudman) Thomas, and a slew of beloved pets over the years.
For those wishing to do so, memorials may be sent to Post Antelope Scholarship Fund, c/o Post/Garza County Endowment, P. O. Box 5, Post, TX 79356 or Post Animal Refuge Center (PARC), P. O. Box 13, Post, TX 79356.
Pallbearers will be Les Acker, Wendell Duncan, Jason Johnson, Justin Johnson, Reese Roberts and Will Todd.
