Obituary

Roy Daymon Ethridge was born on September 25, 1938 , to Roy and Mary Ethridge in Mills County, Texas.  He grew up surrounded by sisters Jerry, Wyvone , and Patsy.  Daymon went to grade school in the Graham community west of Post and then joined the infamous C lass of 1957 at Post High School.

On July 1, 1960, he married Barbara Wheatley in Post . Soon after, they moved to Fort Lewis, Washington for an adventur e in the Army where Daymon received top artillery marksman honors and served in the military police on range patrol. The Army invited him to stay beyond his 2-year draft obligation, but he politely declined even though the experience was one of the highlights of his life as evidenced by the numerous stories he shared and the lifelong friendships he made there .

After returning home to Post, Daymon and Barbara became a part of their families' farming operations.  Even though they experienced many ups and downs in this pursuit, th rough hard work and persistence they became successful and highly respected members of their local farming community.  They proudly raised two daughters who learned so much from a lifetime on the farm. Daymon loved having kids running all over the house whenever possible, so he and Barbara made a home that was a refuge for nieces and nephews, neighbors' and friends' kids alike, all in search of unlimited snacks and a lack of bedtime rules.

Daymon is preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters, and his wife of 49 years, Barbara.  He is survived by daughters Debbie Hanks and her husband Edward of Seymour, Betsy Painter and her husband Mike of Lubbock, as well as a grandson, Miles Painter, two bonus grandsons, Dillon Hanks and Casey Hanks with wife Britney and daughters Cheyenne and Quincey, along with many nieces and nephews .

Daymon passed from this life peacefully on April 20, 2023 , after a lengthy stay at Lynn County Hospital in Tahoka, Texas.

The family requests any donations be made to Cal Farley Boy s Ranch in Amarillo or Buckner's Children ' s Home of Lubbock .
