William “Bill”
Coltrane
February 16, 1946 – July 4, 2024
Dr. William (Bill) Coltrane was born on February 16, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas, to William Ovid Coltrane and Era lee Bryant. He passed from this life on July 4,2024.
Services will be at Graham Chapel Church of Christ in Post at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Visitation for Bill will be at Hudman Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, July 5th.
Bill and his family moved to lubbock, Texas in 1950. After graduating from Muleshoe High School in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965. He proudly served this country until discharged in 1968. After his military service he lived and worked in Chicago, Illinos, Dallas, Texas, Grand Lake, Colorado, and in both Northern and Southern California before returning to lubbock in 1979. Bill attended Texas Tech University, earning his Bachelor's. Masters, and Doctorate. He began his teaching career at Lubbock Christian High School before moving to Post in 1999-2000.
Dr. Coltrane was a beloved educator tor 23 years. He spent 19 years teaching Post Middle School students to "read and think critically" while encouraging them to write thorough and complete essays. He will never be forgotten because of his kindness and his love for all of his students. He retired in 2019.
Bill is survived by many cousins, extended family as well as Friends and former students. He was preceded in death by a baby brother, Robert R. Coltrane in 1948 as well as his parents in 1985 and 2009.
Memorials are suggested to Graham Chapel Church of Christ, Post Animal Refuge Center, or your favorite Charity.
