In Loving Memory of Zoe Carol (Sims) Ham

We celebrate today that our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and "Mama Zoe", Zoe Carol (Sims) Ham, went to her home in heaven on March 14, 2025 at the age of 92. We will miss her greatly until the day when we are reunited again.

Zoe was born in Post, Texas to Byrdie Nell Sims and Tom "Red" Sims in her grandmother (Mama Davis's) home on March 23, 1932. Her childhood years were spent in Kent County where her family farmed and ranched. Zoe and her late sister, Jean Basinger, attended school at home with a retired teacher, Ms. Lorraine Richardson, through the third grade.

In 1940, the Sims family bought land north of Post and moved in order for the girls to attend public school. This was home for Zoe and would always be such a special place to her and her family. Zoe told and re-told many stories to her children and grandchildren about her childhood on the ranch and about the exciting once a month trips to Post to see a movie and shop. At the time, this meant 13 miles of dirt road and a dirt river crossing on Highway 207.

She attended school in Post fourth grade through tenth grade and recounted stories of her and her classmates gathering scrap metal and rubber to support the war efforts. When the bus no longer serviced their home, Zoe transferred to Southland and graduated with a class of ten students from Southland High School.

After high school graduation, Zoe attended Draughon's Business School in Lubbock where she met her husband of almost 73 years, Jack Ham of Big Lake, Texas. Jack and Zoe were married on July 11, 1952 at her childhood home near Post. After a short honeymoon in Raton, New Mexico, they remained in Lubbock so Jack could finish school at Texas Tech University. They latermoved to Jack's family's ranch near Big Lake where they lived and ranched until 1989 when they returned to the Sim's Ranch in Post.

Zoe was a devoted mother, housewife, and companion to her husband Jack. She served in her church, taught Sunday school, cooked many meals for cowboys and others, and always shared her home and wisdom with others. Zoe loved bird watching, wild flowers, sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Zoe and Jack have three children; Brenda (Joe) Holladay of Post, Texas, Joel Ham of Big Lake, and Clay (Sarah) Ham of Lubbock. They also have eight grandchildren who love her dearly; Brandon Holladay, Brian (Sarah Grace) Holladay, Ashley (Kyle) Coble, Brooke Ham, Janice (Brian) Whipple, Austin (Jessica) Ham, Matthew (Jentry) Ham, Nathan (Jenna) Ham, and fourteen great grandchildren: Cole Holladay, Cade Holladay, Hudson Holladay, Graham Holladay, Samuel Whipple, Henry Whipple, Danny Whipple, Catherine Whipple, Watson Ham, Beckett Ham, Ellison Ham, Truman Ham, Emerson Ham, Wade Ham, and one on the way.

A funeral service to celebrate Zoe's life will be held on Monday, March 17th, at 10:00 AM at Hudman Funeral Home in Post, Texas. Graveside services will be held at the Stiles Cemetery at 3:30 PM. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and honor Zoe's beautiful life.

Zoe Ham's light may have dimmed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, dear Zoe. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
